A late first half run proved to be too much for the Perham girls basketball team to overcome as they suffered a 75-52 defeat at the hands of Park Rapids Area on Dec. 3 in Park Rapids.

With both teams tied at 28 late in the first half, Park Rapids Area scored nine straight points and carried the momentum into the break. They quickly extended the lead in the second half and pulled away by outscoring the Yellowjackets 38-24 in the second half, handing Perham its first defeat of the new season.

The duo of Kaisa Coborn and Rilee Michaelson paced the Park Rapids Area attack with 18 points each. Natalie Kinkel added 10 points as well.

The Yellowjackets struggled to get their shots to drop against the Panthers. Mesa Schultz finished with a team high of 11 points, while Katie Johnson added 10. Lacy Richter finished with eight points and hit a pair of 3-pointers. Richter and Johnson had two each, while Lisa Meader and Rachel Muer each hit one.

The Yellowjackets drop their season mark to 2-1 overall, while Park Rapids Area moves to 2-0 with the key Section 8AA victory. Perham returns to the road on Dec. 6 when they take on Sebeka in Sebeka at 7:30 p.m.
