Smalley Smiles (by editor Harv Smalley): The weather grabbed the spotlight this week with the first real snow of the year. It made the upcoming Christmas season seem more real, gave the kids a chance to frolic in their favorite white and build snowmen, some of them with forts or castles. Snowmobile enthusiasts had their prayers answered, but some of them who got too daring on thin ice dampened the season by going to their eternal reward.

Bus Carrying 38 Rolls Over: Thirty-eight students of the Underwood High School, grades seven through 12, escaped serious injury when the bus in which they were riding skidded and rolled over en route to school this morning. All the students were taken to the two clinics in Fergus Falls as a precautionary measure. Highways were slippery with three or four inches of soft, wet snow covering ice.

Ice condition 'iffy' so far in winter of '93: Heavy snowfall, warm temps keep good ice from forming: The winter of '93 has created some wierd, and frequently dangerous, ice conditions on lakes around the area...
